On our way into town, we toured a home that belonged to Charles Pinckney, who was a principal author and a signer of the United States Constitution (as well as SC Governor, Senator and member of the House). We then just walked around downtown for a bit and stopped outside the Powder Magazine Building/Museum, which is the oldest surviving public building in South Carolina.. The next day we toured Fort Moultrie, located on Sullivan's Island which was built in 1776. It was used during the Revolutionary and Civil wars (it was between Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter where the Civil war began) and had to be rebuilt twice. It was updated over time and even used during WWII.

Ellie running around. Aren't the trees (and their hanging moss) there cool?
Channing and Kylie rocking on the porch (which didn't last long because of the mosquitos).

Unfortunately we didn't have more time in Charleston. I would love to go back someday. And when I do, I will be taking a tour of the city by horse-drawn carriage, a tour of one of the plantations and a ghost tour!
Next post: Ohio: the final leg of our trip.
That looks like fun! What a fun place for a family reunion!
